Nicky Hayen has made himself very popular at Club Brugge in recent weeks. The interim coach managed to get the toiling ship to win again. Although it is very clear that nothing comes in vain…

A place in the semi-finals – and until further notice still in the running for a place in the final – of the Conference League and top favorite for the Belgian title. Under Nicky Hayen it has become a reality for Club Brugge. The interim coach does what Ronny Deila has never succeeded in doing.

Although it must be said: Hayen’s work ethic is very professional. “I arrive at the club around seven in the morning,” the coach said The last news. “I usually don’t go back to my apartment until nine or ten at night. And then my work day is still not over.”

“I’m usually watching fragments of matches in my apartment,” the coach continues. “Sometimes I try to read a bit, but that is always about football. These are football magazines or articles about tactical choices during a match.” (laughs)

However, Hayen does not regret his choice. “I’ve never known it any other way. At the moment it is of course extra intensive, but my family (Hayen’s family still lives in Sint-Truiden, ed.) handles the situation well. Although I realize that it also has a number of disadvantages.”

“I try to be present as much as possible at birthdays or parties,” Hayen concludes. “Although I did miss my son’s solemn communion due to the match against Antwerp FC. In such a case, I try to contribute via video messages. The children are also used to it. They both play for STVV and train five times a week next to their school. It’s ingrained, isn’t it.”
