Last month, Donald Trump reportedly met with about 20 oil magnates at Mar-a-Lago, his country retreat in the southern state of Florida. Some top names from the energy companies Chevron, Continental Resources, Exxon and Occidental Petroleum, among others, are said to have been present at that meeting – and the accompanying dinner.

A pleasant chat was not the main purpose of the evening. Donald Trump mainly used the meeting to plead his case and raise more funds for his election campaign. This is stated by the American newspaper The Washington Post, which – on condition of anonymity – spoke to some people who were at that dinner.

One of those present reportedly complained about the many “burdensome environmental regulations”, despite the fact that more than $400 million in lobbying money had already been spent last year to get the Biden administration to change course. Trump is said to have then proposed transferring a donation of $1 billion to get him back into the White House. According to the former president, that is “a good deal”, because with their donation they would avoid a lot of taxes and regulations.
